REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, ON THE OCCASION OF THE INAUGURATION OF THE NATIONAL TRAFFIC RADIO (NTR) AT THE CORPS’ NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS ABUJA ON 15 JUNE, 2021.

PROTOCOLS

It really does seem that the FRSC has been making massive waves in public safety in the last few months. Only recently I was at Owa-Alero in Delta State to inaugurate the Training School built and donated to the FRSC by the Delta State Government for the training of Corps personnel of Inspectorate Cadre under a strategic partnership between the Federal and State Government.

And here we are barely a month later to conduct the official inauguration of National Traffic Radio (NTR) 107.1 FM established by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Congratulations to travelers by road across the country; this station will also serve as a crucial feedback mechanism that would help the FRSC improve its operations.

This is an important and strategic initiative in several respects. First, it takes advantage of the most widely used medium of information dissemination in our nation, radio.  Second, the service will enable the effective dissemination of relevant information on road safety and the provision of up-to-date information on road conditions, as well as traffic status and security to the public. And because people are keen to have information of this kind as they travel, this service is bound to become very popular.

Thirdly, the station can take advertisements and earn revenue to maintain itself and extend its services.

Fourth, because of the very extensive reach of this radio, it will be useful in broadcasting information on safety and security. It can even be used to reach far-flung areas for teaching and dissemination of public health advisories and information.

I really think that the vision and resourcefulness of the leadership of the FRSC ought to be commended, and you can be assured that the Federal Government will support your efforts as much as possible.

I commend all the stakeholders for their support towards the success of this project, indeed road safety is a shared responsibility. I enjoin you all to sustain your support and goodwill towards the Corps and the station in the collective desire to restore safety on the nation’s highways.

On this note, it is now my honour and privilege to inaugurate the National Traffic Radio. 107.1 FM today for the education, enlightenment, and entertainment of all Nigerians to ensure the safety and security of all who ply our roads.

Thank you and God bless.
