REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE PALACE OF THE EMIR OF KATSINA, ALHAJI ABDULMUMINU KABIR USMAN ON THE 30TH JANUARY, 2022

PROTOCOLS

Your Royal Highness, first, let me thank you very much for the warm welcome to your palace.  I’m here to pay my respect and to also bring the very warm regards of your son and our President, President Muhammadu Buhari.

I’m here in Katsina State to condole my brother, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, who lost his mother, as you know about nine days ago.  His mother was someone who was very well regarded in the community.  She was someone who served her community and the State very well; helping so many people, helping the poor, helping the vulnerable and providing for so many.

Her death is a big blow not just to the Mangal family, but also to the State and to her community.  So, I’m here to commiserate with my friend and brother and also with the government and people of Katsina State and also with you, this being Your Highness’ Kingdom.

Your Royal Highness, I want to say that it’s been a while since I have been here in your palace.  Of course, I’ve been in Daura a couple of times.  The Governor has informed me about the progress that is being made, but at the same time to condole you about those who have lost their lives at various times in the State.

I know that this is something that has troubled you; it is something that has troubled the President himself, and of course, the Governor.  But the President has decided to make all possible efforts and changes necessary in order to ensure that all over the country, there is adequate security.

I’m sure that Your Royal Highness will remember that only recently the president, following the gazette that has been issued, ordered that bandits should be classified as terrorists.  This is to enable security agencies to take more stringent action against them.  That is why they are now officially designated as terrorists so that they can be more stringently dealt with by the authorities, by both the army and the police.  So, we expect to see significant changes and we expect to see peace.

By the grace of God, peace will return to all our villages and communities in this state and all across the country.  This as you know is the president’s desire.  This is what he wants to see happen and I’m sure with all the measures that are now taking place, we should be able to see a very significant change in the security situation in the country.

I’d like to thank you very much again for the warm welcome and to thank all the chiefs who are here, members of the Emirate Council and all the people and community here.  Thank God for peace and I pray that there will continue to be peace in your kingdom and that this kingdom will know prosperity under your reign.  There will be prosperity, there will be happiness; there will be joy and our country also will know peace and all will be well with our country.

Thank you very much.
