REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, AT THE APC STAKEHOLDERS’ TOWN HALL IN ABA, ABIA STATE ON THE 5TH OF MARCH, 2019

I want to say to you all that it’s really a very special pleasure to be here, and to thank you very much for the wonderful effort that led to the election of Mr. President and me on the 23rd of February, 2019.

Abia State made a historic contribution to that election, for the first time, the President, the APC, got over 25% votes, but we know that it was not even all the votes that were counted, so we would have gotten more votes than we got.  By the grace of God come March 9, this Saturday, we will prove to everybody that this State belongs to the APC.

Let me say to you that there are many people who have said all manner of things, somebody said there are some States that have been reserved for the PDP and Abia is one of those states.  Let me tell you that that is false.  It is completely untrue.  Abia as far as we are concerned is an important State for the APC.

Let me say to you, they said that when the rally was held here, I did not attend. As a rule, I should not attend the same rally that Mr. President attends.  As a matter of fact, the President and myself are not supposed to be at the same place outside of the Villa.  That rule was broken only when he visited some South West States because I am of South West origin. That’s the time we were able to break that rule.

If you look at any of the rallies, whether it was Kano, Kebbi, wherever, you won’t find me there at any of those rallies because we are not supposed to be at the same place, for security reasons, at the same time.

I have come to Abia many times because of the centrality and importance of the State.  This state is the leading state for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises. When we launched the MSME clinics, this was the first State. We have gone to the 36 States of the Federation, but this was the first State that we launched the MSME Clinics.  So this has always been important, very important to us.

And when you look at a lot of the scheme; the Home Grown School Feeding Programme and all these Programmes, one of the reasons the APC and members have not been able to benefit directly is because the government is not an APC government.  The only remedy for us comes on Saturday.  Let us not argue and say anything, the only answer to the question you have asked is on Saturday.  And by the grace of God come Saturday, we are going to change the government.

Many of us know that very frequently, the PDP tries to use religion in order to create the impression APC is a party that does not favour Christians.  It’s a big lie. And let me tell you what, President Buhari, as you know, is a Muslim and I am a Christian and not just a Christian but a born again child of God.  Let me tell you and it’s very important, none of us who are here will be asked to compromise our faith, our faith is so important to us.  As a person, my faith is so important to me, it is the foundation of every that I do.

Thank you for listening.
