Following ongoing and sustained efforts to tackle banditry, related challenges and generally improve security, “we expect to see significant changes” across the country, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this on Sunday when he paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir, at his Palace, on the sideline of his visit to the State.

The Vice President travelled to Katsina Sunday, condoling with the family of Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, whose mother, Hajiya Murjanatu Mangal passed on recently. While in town, the VP also stopped by the Yar’adua family compound where he also commiserated with the matriarch of the Yar’adua family, Hajiya Aya Dada Yar’adua. Both Yar’adua and Mangal families are close.

Speaking during his courtesy call on the Emir of Katsina, the Vice President stated that President Muhammadu Buhari was concerned about the country’s security challenges and is making concerted efforts to ensure adequate security nationwide.

“I’m here to pay my respect and to also bring the very warm regards of your son and our president, President Muhammadu Buhari. The governor has informed me about the progress that is being made, but at the same time to condole you about those who have lost their lives at various times in the state,” he said.

Prof. Osinbajo said the Federal Government officially designated bandits as terrorists to enable security agencies to take more stringent action against them.

“So, we expect to see significant changes and we expect to see peace.  By the grace of God, peace will return to all our villages and communities in this state and all across the country. This as you know is the President’s desire.

“This is what he wants to see happen and I’m sure with all the measures that are now taking place, we should be able to see a very significant change in the security situation in the country.”

The Vice President prayed for peace and prosperity in the community under the watch of the Emir.

Similarly, during his condolence visit to Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, Prof. Osinbajo underscored the significance of a life of service to the community.

He stated that Hajiya Murjanatu’s death was a big blow not just to the Mangal family, but also to the state and to her community, because “of the kind of person that she was; a woman who served her community, served her people all through her life.”

“Hajiya Murjanatu not only served her family but served so many people in this community here, in this state.  So many people, the poor, the vulnerable, people who need help, she was there for them.  She gave all; everything she had, she continued to contribute.”

The Vice President, on behalf of the President and the Federal Government, extended condolences to Alhaji Mangal and the people of the State. He also prayed for the peace and security of the State and nation.

Speaking to the press afterwards, Alhaji Mangal thanked the VP for his visit, and said Katsina would always welcome him because it was “his home.”

“Katsina people like him; he is very nice. He has a very good relationship with me personally. That is why I’m very grateful and I appreciate his visit.  He (the VP) is a very honest person; very straightforward. God bless him,” he said.

The Vice President who was received by Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari was also accompanied on the visit to Katsina by members of the National Assembly, including Hon. Muntari Dandutse, and other top government officials.
