ANDREWS ANGLICAN CHURCH IN OWO, ONDO STATE ON THE 12TH OF NOVEMBER, 2022

PROTOCOLS

Let me begin by saying that today is a day of great joy, which is why I started by singing the song that we all sang today, “Lift up the name of Jesus” because, at the end of the day, we must celebrate the most important legacies a person can possibly have: the legacy in Christ.

This is a most auspicious occasion for us to celebrate the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is a time to celebrate our Lord and Saviour because of the great deed he has done.  The life of our mother, Lady Evangelist Grace Abosede Akeredolu is worthy of emulation.

Here is a woman who served God from the beginning of her life; lost her husband at the age of about 50, but lived to the age of 90, and brought up seven children — four boys and three girls.  And if you look at the four boys, you would know she made a great effort.  Just bringing up my dear friend and brother, Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu alone, she made a great effort.  She did very, very well indeed. So, we thank God for her life.

We must thank God because not only did she bring up her children well and in the way of the Lord, all of them today are very successful.  We have heard among them, of course, the Governor of this State, we have professors, we have doctors.  There is practically every segment represented here.

But let us just say that what we celebrate the most about her is her service to God, her service to mankind.  She served all her life in the church.  First, she was an evangelist for many years in St. John’s Anglican Church in Erinmi and another in St. John’s Anglican Church in Ibadan there, serving for so many years. She retired at the age of 75 but continued to serve and continued to serve well.  She reached the age of 90 before the Lord called her home.

So, we are extremely proud, all of us who are here today, to celebrate the life of a great woman – a woman of God, a woman who served her family, served her community, served her nation and served her God well.  And we will continue to rejoice in the knowledge that amongst us once walked such a great and incredible woman.

We thank God for her life and thank God for all members of her family.

On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari and all the people of this nation, we all want to commiserate with you and extend our sincere condolence to our dear friend and brother, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and all members of the Akeredolu family.

We pray that the Almighty God will bless the memory of our dear mother.

To God be all the glory.

God bless you all.

Thank you.
