REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE FUNERAL SERVICE OF MRS EUNICE OLASHADE ADESINA, MOTHER OF AFDB PRESIDENT, AKIN ADESINA, IN OGUN STATE ON THE 11TH OF FEBRUARY, 2023

PROTOCOLS

For all of us who are here today, I think it is a very special day indeed because we celebrate a mother and an icon in her own right.  She lived 92 years.  And in that period, if you read the biography, she has achieved all that she wanted to achieve.  She was a teacher, a seamstress, a businesswoman and a woman who served God from her youth up until the time of her death.

In so many ways she represented an era that not all of us would forget. She is an example for us today: an era where hard work was rewarded, an era where the love of God, honesty and integrity were regarded as the highest value. And I know and I pray that era would return, in the mighty Name of the Lord Jesus.

A life of an exemplary character – a good man or a good woman lives inheritance for his or her children’s children. That inheritance, of course, is not money, not houses, it is not in material things.  Inheritance is the love of God, inheritance is the gospel of Jesus Christ and Mama has left that legacy, as you can see, is so well demonstrated in all of her children.

Our dear friend, Dr. Adesina, and anyone who knows him, know that he is a man of prayer, not just a born-again Christian, but a preacher by himself and I want to say that for all the years that I know him, he has never disappointed in his public life and in the love of God.

Of course, mothers are successful people, however, for me, those that impress me are those despite all their achievements, still, honour God with deep humility and understanding above all that they may be able to achieve in life.  That comes from a life that nurtures her children well. She left a legacy for her children and that legacy is one that her children’s children are also involved in.

So today, as we celebrate, we also express our deep condolence to the Adesina family and to all friends that are here to thank God for her life. To thank God that she lived long enough to see her children, to see her grandchildren, to see her great-grandchildren.  We thank God that she left behind a legacy that is worthy of celebration.

We pray that the Almighty God will comfort the family. Some of us consider ourselves very fortunate. I thank God that He has so many things for us to rejoice even in the passing of our mother who has left a great legacy. May the Almighty God preserve you all.

I pray for the children and grandchildren in accordance with the word of God, God’s word says that God would bless the children of the righteous a thousand generations, those who fear the Lord. So may the Lord bless your generations, all you do would be blessed, in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Thank you very much.
