NATION BUILDING REQUIRES DISCIPLINE AND COMMITMENT – VP OSINBAJO

*Says OYES programme was inspiration behind FG’s N-Power programme

“The future belongs to you. But we cannot build this country unless we are disciplined unless we are committed. I’ve seen your commitment, I’ve seen your discipline and I’m sure that there is no need to refer to you as leaders of tomorrow. You are indeed the leaders of today because the future is already here.”

“We are going to see this group of people become great members of this society, great leaders of this society. You’ll also be men and women who will lead politically. You’ll be leaders in business; you’ll be leaders in entrepreneurship, you’ll be leaders in all of the social process of our society.” – Osinbajo

REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE 4TH BATCH OYES CADET PARADE HELD IN OSOGBO, OSUN STATE, ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2018

PROTOCOLS

I’m very privileged to witness this historical event; the inauguration of the 4th Batch of the OYES cadet, 20,000 young men and women who have been trained physically and mentally, to serve their communities, State and nation. They learned skills and vocations that will prepare them for lives as quality entrepreneurs and service to communities.

When OYES started in 2011, Ogbeni and I had thought at the time that this would be a national programme. That it would be a programme designed by the State of Osun, but that it would be a national programme. As a matter of fact, the N-Power programme, and I can see some N-Power persons on that side on the left, was designed to be very similar to the OYES programme.

When in 2015, our party won the national election, we decided that we must design a programme for the engagement and employment of young people, for the training of young people. And that’s why we have the N-Power programme.

The inspiration of the N-Power is the OYES programme. I believe strongly that our nation will benefit greatly from the expansion of this programme to all states of the Federation of Nigeria. Today, we have 500,000 N-Power beneficiaries across Nigeria in every single local government area.

We actually have more N-Power beneficiaries than policemen in our country. They are all over the country doing incredible things; they are teaching, they are involved in public health, they are involved in agriculture, they are in every facet of life.

Let me say to you, all you who are in this latest batch of the OYES programme, you have a duty not just to yourselves, but to your State and country. This country belongs to you. The future belongs to you. But we cannot build this country unless we are disciplined, unless we are committed. I’ve seen your commitment, I’ve seen your discipline and I’m sure that there is no need to refer to you as leaders of tomorrow. You are indeed the leaders of today because the future is already here.

I want to congratulate you because I know that this is only the beginning of the great progress you are going to make. We are going to see this group of people become great members of this society, great leaders of this society.

You’ll also be men and women who will lead politically. You’ll be leaders in business; you’ll be leaders in entrepreneurship, you’ll be leaders in all of the social process of our society. So, we are looking forward to your leadership and greatness.

I pray that the Almighty God will help you; that the Almighty God will preserve you so that you will meet all of our expectations of your State and of our country.
