We join the government of Oyo State, His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, the royal families of Ibadan, and the people of Ibadan in mourning the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Dr. Senator Moshood Olalekan Ishola Balogun Ali-iwo, Alli Okunmade II.

He ascended the throne better prepared than probably any monarch anywhere in the world. With a PhD, a background in economic and social research, a social scientist, scholar, and an intellectual sympathy for Marxist dialectic, a university teacher, former Senator of the Federal Republic, and a champion of indigenous culture and community empowerment.

Everything in his remarkable life and times, his abiding dedication and love for the people of Ibadan, his breadth of intellect, openness of mind, and largeness of heart won him the hearts and minds of the people of Ibadan over whom he reigned, and earned him national respect and admiration.

We pray that his memory and legacies will endure and be blessed always.
