REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON, AT THE 80TH BIRTHDAY THANKSGIVING SERVICE OF MRS FLORENCE AKINYEMI, OYO STATE ON THE 2ND OF FEBRUARY, 2019.
Today, I am very excited for my aunty, Mrs. Florence Bimpe Akinyemi whose 80th birthday it is today.
I first must thank the Reverend Fathers for their kindness. Reverend Father Onowe and all of the other men of God who are here to officiate, thank you all very much.
My aunty, our aunty is very dear to me and to all of us and we are all here to celebrate her. She took care of us as children. When we were in fact babies, it was aunty who took care of all my brothers and me. She was extremely kind. Even this morning, my older brother and I were talking about when she used to work at Kingsway stores and she will bring us meat pie from the stores. Every time we always had meat pie.
I think I was about four years old at the time, if you are sick, and she brought meat pies, you would be well immediately. Aunty, you had always been very special. As we grew older, she was always there for us as well. I remember when she was a Matron, she had her own Hospital at 194, Ikorodu Road and she had two cars, but as we grew up, all of us will go there one after the other and take her cars and drive all over the place. We were the ones who ruined all her cars but, she was always so kind.
If you had no money at all, you would walk from Obanikoro to Ikorodu Road and you are sure that aunty will raise you no matter how small. She will tell you, mi o ni owo o (I do not have money) but, she would still give you some money.
So, aunty has been so good and very kind and we all just love her so much and we want to say to you today that we love you very much. All of us, Femi, Akin, Arike, Tunde, Tolu, and of course all of our other cousins who are here – Tohun, Tolu, Tope, Yinka, Dele, all of us truly love you very much. We are here to say so to you on your 80th birthday.
We pray for you, as your days, so shall your strength, so shall your wisdom, so shall your favour with God in Jesus Mighty Name.
We are going to be around to celebrate to your 90th, your 100th year as well in Jesus name, amen.
